Merthyr to Ystrad Mynach - 10 mile run!

Merthyr to Ystrad Mynach - 10 mile run!

Well, today my marathon plan told me to run ten miles. I usually run to
Bedlinog and back along the cycle track, but fancied a change.
Got my hubby to drop me off in Merthyr Tydfil - 10 miles from home!

I would describe this run as "undulating".

The first mile or two consisted of industrial estates and terraced houses.....

......But soon, I had views of rolling welsh hills to my right.....

.....and silver birch woodland to my left :o)

The route was slightly undulating, but mostly flat along here.

Some more welsh hills...

...and a rygby pitch of course :o)

Discovered the Trevithick Trail, so decided to take a detour.....

This was the site of the former Merthyr Vale Colliery.....

The scenery gets more and more rural as I progress...

Some very green, knobbly, moss-covered, spooky looking trees...

This is half way point....5 miles to go......

A long, slow drag of a hill up towards Edwardsville....

The coal seams at Treharris.....

Across the river....OMG! That looks FRREEEEEZING!

Some more spooky trees.......

Only about 3 mile to go now....Back on the cycle track....

Sheep in the fields to the left.....

......and horses in the field to the right.

Finally arrived at Penallta Park lake...
Decided to run around it and through the beautiful willow tunnel
I ran through in the snow in January......

It was here, ove the track....but it's GONE!!!

It was stunning! Took years and years to grow and some people have vandalised it,
so the council cut it all down! I am annoyed and gutted!
I used to love running through this tunnel!! :o(

Carried on towards the next lake.....

....and now for the final incline.....

Past the third lake.....all is calm.......

Usually, there are only ducks, but today there are geese on the last lake!!

Last little fast stretch of cycle track before I reach Ystrad.....

Penallta Rocks to the left, where lots of people climb.....

Little bit of fast downhill track.....

...and I leave the cycle track, arriving at Ystrad Mynach
after running parallel for half a mile with this pretty little stream.

What a great, varied run!

Can't wait til the next adventure........ :o)
